Canton is located in Lewis County.

Lewis County is a county located in Northeast Missouri in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 10,211.[1] Its county seat is Monticello.[2] The county was organized January 2, 1833 and named for Meriwether Lewis, the explorer and Governor of the Louisiana Territory. Lewis County Historical Society Libary & Museum

The Lewis County Historical Society Museum is located at 102 North 4th Street. This is also home to the Lewis County Historical Society. The museum is also an extensive research facility on Lewis County history and families. Started by Stuart and Jean Purvines to house their extensive collection of geneological research on Lewis County families, the society & museum is manned by volunteers willing to help you find a link to your past. Hours are Tuesday & Thursdays 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM or by appointment on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays.
